“Can’t it be both?” Caleb dares to rest his cheek against the other’s knee, hands delving into sweeping up and down the back of Essek’s calf. Essek taps the toe of the other boot against Caleb’s thigh before using it to push him backward by the shoulder.
“Either way, there is more work to be done.”

Summary
“Ha! I have an abundance of interesting secrets.” Essek looks up at him and flicks his ears when Caleb tickles them back up towards the tips. “I can tell a fraction of what I know, and I will, Caleb Widogast. I will.”
It is around three years post canon and the wizards live together in a demiplane. Caleb is teaching and Essek keeps a low profile while focusing on research, but sometimes the high level and a bit bored wizards go out on small adventures together.
This time they go to investigate a hag's corruption of children in the Pearlbow Wilderness. It gets pretty scary and it seems like Essek knows more spells than Caleb had thought. Discussions of magic and reality ensue.
