Yong smiles, proud of his plan. Varian chances a look at Hugo and the bastard looks downright evil. Varian already knows that he’s going to have way too much fun with this. He looks back to Nuru, eyes pleading when he catches a mischievous glint in her eye. Then he remembers.
He had had a conversation with Nuru about a week ago, slightly tipsy and sitting around the campfire. He had told her that he had a crush on Hugo.
He’d like to say it was all a coincidence, but he knows Nuru too well. The princess is fucking smart.

“Yes,” Nico says automatically. Will grins, and he flushes. “I mean, I guess if I have to. Loser.”
“Ever so grateful, Neeks.”
“You should be.”
He keeps his voice prim and superior, attempting to uphold his image, and since he is delusional he convinces himself he’s successful. Will, though, is entirely undeterred, lazy smile still on his face and arms stretched above his head, the picture of unbothered. A sliver of skin shows where the hem of his shirt rises and Nico ignores it. He doesn’t even glance at it, or the glint of Will’s belly-button piercing, at all. Nor is he aware of Will’s shorts riding up, or the curve of his calves as he crosses his legs. All of these things go unnoticed. Obviously.
“I have a proposal for you, if you’re done checking me out.”
Nico shoves his flaming face in his knees. “Did you know that in all the corners of the Earth I have been to, I’ve only encountered three things uglier than you?”

“Does it bother you that we haven’t kissed yet?” Nico blurted out one night while he watched Will fold the clothes he had washed earlier that day. Will quirked up an eyebrow as he folded a shirt, silent for a few beats. He put away the shirt before turning to face Nico. Nico gulped, knowing where the conversation was going.
Or, Nico and Will haven't kissed yet. Nico is slowly losing his mind over it.

Will inhales sharply and Nico can feel the heat radiating from his cheeks. “Oh?” Will asks softly.
Nico tips his chin forward, their lips brushing together. “Uh-uh,” he breathes, “Wanna bet on it?”
Nico moves his hands higher up Will’s thighs and suddenly he can feel the blond grabbing at his hips and waist. All Will can do is nod slowly. “If I can make you blush, then I win. But if you make me blush, then you win.”

“Nico! Hi!”
“He-ey, Will,” Nico says, voice cracking badly on every vowel. Annabeth shoves her face into Percy’s shoulder, body shaking.
“I didn’t know you were coming! I thought you were in the arena all day.”
Nico shrugs, shoes scuffing the floor. “I am. I just — uh, I got hurt? So. Came to see you.”
Will’s beam is so bright it hurts to look at, a little. Percy squints and realises that’s not just the excitement, actually — he really is glowing, faintly. His hands flap slightly at his sides.
“Well, you’re in the right place, then.”
“Yeah.”
Neither of them say anything for a minute, rocking back on their heels. Will watches Nico closely, biting his lip. Nico looks resolutely at the floor.
“We weren’t this bad,” Annabeth whispers, “were we?”
Percy shakes his head. “Nah, there’s no way.”
“Gods. It’s so — I don’t know whether to smile or take a dip in the Lethe. It’s embarrassing and endearing at the same time.”
