Summary
The monthly hunts and races were supposed to be a fun event, with the aim of getting a friend for life. It was never meant to turn into a mission.
The rules were supposed to be clear, and easy to follow. Hunters and Runners had slightly altered rules from each other, to keep the game interesting. Lives weren’t meant to be at stake.
But something funny is going on in Tommy’s life, and the facts that he knew for certain are crumbling away into questions. What is actually going on with hunts and races, and why is Dream so desperate to prove something?
After an attempt on his life, Tommy knows he can't just let Dream win. He understands that Dream's manipulative, cruel, and willing to do whatever to get what he wants. But if he were trying to use those powers against Tommy himself, that would have been one thing. It's completely different when he's trying to break Purpled instead.

Suddenly, a dark blur drops down from above, landing in a crouch, and all of Zoro's muscles tense. He hadn't sensed anyone else, so how—
A blond kid stands in front of him, worn top hat on his head and a long, lethal-looking metal pipe in his hands. He's dressed well, in a dirty but clearly expensive blue-shaded suit that seems ridiculous on a child—and he looks absolutely, utterly pissed.
“Don’t move!” the kid shouts, brandishing his weapon. Then, softer—more serious—he spits, “Who are you, and what the hell did you do with my little brother?”

The Straw Hats find it a little weird that they don’t have a first mate. Whenever they ask, Luffy just laughs and says they do. Which is weirder, because none of the crew have ever met this so-called first mate.
A time-travel au, in which a captain and his first mate go back to the very beginning, and figures they can do more good apart than together. At least for now.

“Ace and Sabo are gonna kill me!” Luffy’s hand is firmly in his as they run back through the town, presumably towards wherever the trio lives. “And then they’re gonna kill you for sure!” Zoro cringes. Just his luck, he had the chance to meet both of the people (one for the second time) who are so important to his Captain, and ended up making a terrible impression. Great. Wonderful.
“But don’t worry,” Luffy grins at him, “I won’t let them!” Zoro sighs and chuckles at this ever familiar confidence.
“I know you won’t.”
