Summary
The humans threw Grace away. Grace, who worked so hard to save them, who came back for Rocky when he realized the taomoeba would eat through Rocky's ship. Grace, who gave up his chance to go home to save Erid too.
And then Rocky finds out exactly how Grace ended up in space.
They're not giving him back now. Grace will always have a place on Erid where he's beloved and cherished the way he should be, even if it takes Grace a while to believe he's worth that. Rocky may or may not have plans to fix up the Hail Mary for the trip back anyways- there were a few things they wanted to say directly to Stratt's face.

Grace is unprepared for the level of love that all of Erid seemed to have for him. It was vaguely terrifying, but also.... nice? To be cared for. To be wanted.
It gets worse when they find out the circumstances of him ending up on the Hail Mary.
When his declining health necessitates a trip back to Earth, he is faced with a planet that loves him so fiercely and wonderfully that it finally starts to break through his crippling lack of self worth and bloom into something incredible.
And Earth? Earth has to deal with an Erid that is polite, protective, and most of all, pissed.

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.

Tony had his eyes on Grace from the moment he saw Grace step up the the podium for a head to head. He actively sought Ryland out at the party afterwards, a few nice words and enough alcohol flowing through the both of them, and it quickly became something more than a friendly conversation. Years later, a boy named Peter decides that every consequence in the book is worth it for the drama.

Summary
Peter’s science teacher, Mr. Grace, senses that something is affecting him when he notices Peter’s decline in attentiveness and increased absences. Taking matters into his own hands, Ryland decides to talk to who picks Peter up after school, and that person is none other than Tony Stark. The two seem to be more familiar with each other than previously let on, and now Peter has to deal with his mentor chasing after his teacher.
Or: Ryland and Tony had hooked up in college, and seeing each other brought back those feelings they thought were buried down. With Ryland now in his reach, Tony makes it his mission to win him over.

“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.
