“Zoey!” Mira calls out in alarm from somewhere nearby, not from anywhere visible. When had the mist gotten so terribly thick?
Zoey whirls around, slashing a smaller demon across its throat just as its claws stretched out for her side. “I got it!” She shouts back, tearing off after the slippery demon after getting momentarily sidetracked.
She thinks she hears Mira call out again, but she elects to briefly hold off returning to her side, focus zeroed in on the monster that somehow kept managing to slip away from her just as she got close. She’d find a way to pin it down and finish it off for good, and then she’d be right back, right back into her place within the girls’ reach. Easy as pie!
OR; a hunt goes awry when Zoey is attacked by a new, dangerous breed of demon, and Rumi and Mira are left struggling to face a sickness that seems far more sinister than what meets the eye.

Summary
Nothing was making sense, she just noticed chunks of what was happening around her, she didn’t understand what the paramedics or doctors were saying, it had to be about her. Or possibly about her Mum, Ava still cried out for her, all day and night, every time she woke up all Ava wanted was to know where she was.
Everything hurt, not physically, but it was still painful all over. Her mind was slowly racing around, questions she couldn’t keep kept swirling around her mind, but it all passed lazily around her mind. Nothing was making sense, one moment she was in a hospital room, and the next in some beige nightmare.
The walls were covered in crumbling pain, some half stuck up pictures and walls adorned with rotting bookshelves stacked with moulding books. The nicest thing in the room appeared to be a cross above her bed and a painting of Jesus. A nun introduced herself, a sick smile twisting her lips, Ava felt unnerved the second Sister Frances claimed she was nothing but safe.

Kit, in practice, is the antithesis of everything she’s meant to stand for. Behind the masked layers of rigid structure that constrain her, Kit is anything but. Always searching for a freedom that will forever elude a person of her station. Kit can be impulsive, certainly reckless, and headstrong. Kit, despite the efforts of her mother and the court, remains wild, untamed. Kit is the embodiment of free will. Kit reminds her of home, the one beyond the barrier. Her company soothing an ache that Jade can’t name.

How I imagine them meeting (or 5 things Jade learns about the princess and one thing Kit tells her).

“I’m Jade,” she tells the princess, but can’t manage to catch her gaze. As she stares, she waits for Kit to say or do something. But it’s only when she gives up and turns to leave that the princess manages to respond.
“I need you to stay,” she rushes out, and it catches Jade so off guard she almost gets whiplash when she turns back around.
“Your highness-”
But Kit looks up at her then, making real eye contact for the first time, and it crushes the air out of Jade’s chest. It feels strange, getting watched so directly when Kit's been so stealthy until now. Like her soul's bared for judgment.
The princess has weaponized her attention, and it pays off.
“I want you to stay.”
It tugs at her heartstrings.
“Don’t worry, highness,” Jade turns around for the last time. “I’ll watch over you.”
