The lines of Enochian that swirl around his left shoulder throb like a bruise, but the pressure of having his palm on it seems to help. By a few minutes after he wakes up, the burn of it has settled to a low, achy, constant pulse.
But he closes his eyes, puts his hand on it, and says, “We’re coming for you, buddy,” anyway.

Summary
John was out on a hunt when the call came: Kate Milligan was dead, and John was named in her will as the guardian of her son—his son—Adam. Pissed but knowing his duty, Dean pulled Sam out school during exam week, and they went to Windom in the thick of the Minnesota winter. 7-yr-old Adam was a lot like Sammy at that age, but Dean wasn't ready to accept him as another Winchester. Then the boy's life was threatened and all bets were off.
Written for Round 2 of spn_illuminated's 2012 reverse mini-bang, based on art prompt "Child's Play" by tattooeddevil. How could I resist a kid with a belly like this?

Relief rushed through Liam in heavy waves. They came. They were here. They were going to survive the night after all.
At the head of the group, Liam's savior lowered his smoking barrel. He was tall, all long limbs and wide shoulders. The one thing that separated him from the rest of the group was the mess of golden curls atop his head, almost shining in the moonlight. As he met Liam’s gaze, his mouth pulled into a crooked smirk.
