“Don’t talk about yourself that way,” Connor stated firmly, grasping Will’s chin between his thumb and forefinger.
Connor’s expression was patient and the gesture was tinged with love and fondness, instead of annoyance or agitation. Will sniffed hard as a fresh wave of tears sprang to his eyes.
He smiled softly at Will, gently rubbing soothing circles into his freckled skin. “Listen baby, I know you’ve never had a partner that allowed you to display this kind of vulnerability, but you’re allowed to be angry, or hurt, or in pain,” Connor asserted. “I don’t scare that easily, ya know,” he murmured sincerely. ‘I love you Will. You can trust me with your heart.”
Will let out a soft noise of disbelief as tears coursed down his cheeks. He desperately wanted to believe Connor, but his foolish heart had led him astray one too many times.
Connor offered Will a soft smile, gently sweeping away the moisture from his reddened cheeks. “I’m right where I should be, cariño.”
Will’s resolve crumbled as he took in the look of utter conviction on Connor’s face. He decided that he would throw caution to the wind just one more time.

Summary
The unbridled cries of fury and anguish filled the ED, bouncing off its walls and saturating the air around them with thick heavy grief. Will's heart splintered apart inside his chest as he administered a sedative to try and calm her down while she screamed and thrashed violently. Will, Maggie, a security guard and two other nurses had to help hold the woman down to prevent her from injuring herself any further. After a few hellish moments Will watched the fire slowly start to recede from her eyes. Her movements growing sluggish and uncoordinated. Then she became eerily quiet and turned her head to face Will, her expression had sobered. In her last moments of lucidity she grabbed his wrist in a bruising grip, digging her nails into his pale skin as she uttered, ‘You should’ve done more to save my family.’
Will’s head was pounding, his heartbeat was hammering away in his ears, the line of his shoulders were tense, and his body was thrumming with nervous energy as he tried to put the heart rending situation out of his mind but to no avail...
