Summary
Eddie holds his breath, not sure where to put his arms, and watches Buck’s face. The man is deeply engrossed in whatever mindless drivel he’s watching on Instagram, gnawing on his lip, making it pinker. Suddenly, a bright light draws Eddie’s eyes to Buck’s phone screen, and he freezes.
Buck’s watching a makeup tutorial.
A moment passes where Eddie just watches Buck watching the video. It could be a coincidence, just something that he happened upon in his scrolling, but Buck’s watching intently and he doesn’t scroll past it. In fact, there’s this look in his eyes—something akin to longing.
Eddie builds up the courage to tap Buck’s shoulder. He gestures towards the screen. “Is that something you like?”

OR: Buck accidentally lets it slip that he watches makeup videos, and Eddie doesn't let that go.

Summary
“Have you ever thought about changing your name?”
The room goes silent again. Ravi’s not too sure what compelled him to say that exactly, except the fact that there’s probably a carbon monoxide leak in the firehouse that only affects him. Symptom of concern: foot-in-mouth syndrome.
Buck blinks, finally looking at him. “What?”
Ravi shrugs. “If you don’t like your name, what’s stopping you from changing it? My sister did it. She didn’t have any other reason than not liking it.”
Huh. If he’s being honest, Buck hadn’t thought of that. He figured people only legally change their names for pressing reasons like getting married or going into witness protection, not because they want to. “I… I guess I could? Although Buck Buckley sounds kinda weird.”
A look of serious contemplation crosses Eddie’s face, a mix of doubt, hope, and something dangerously close to love. Buck doesn’t notice, too caught up in pondering his new idea, but everyone else can see it. That’s why no one is surprised when Eddie speaks up quietly, one hand sliding to Buck’s shoulder again, and says, “What about Buck Diaz?”

Summary
Buck is a good dog—a loyal dog, chained by only his own loyalty that feels heavy like iron around his neck as he waits. A good dog waits, and if Buck can’t be a good teammate for his family, he can be a good dog for them.
Even though he wants to stay, Buck is a good dog—he follows commands, sits when he’s told, gets off the couch when prompted, and doesn’t even steal food. He’s a good dog, and good dogs return to their imaginary owner at the end of the day when they decide it’s his time to go. He’s a good dog as he walks through the streets of L.A., dodging strangers, weaving through back alleys, and crossing the streets when the light tells him he can.
Buck is a good dog; he’s not a good human, though—dog him is selfless, happy to bask in people’s presence. Human him is selfish, needy, and graceless; unlovable, barely tolerated, and too much.

Summary
Bobby Nash is dead.
He’s not crouched over in prayer anymore. He’s not at the lab.
He doesn’t know where he is. There’s no one here to tell him.
His surroundings are white - not sterile, hospital white, but a few shades lighter. Off-white. Cream. A comfortable white. It’s empty here. No physical environment. No room.
This isn’t Heaven. This isn’t Hell. This isn’t Purgatory.
He knows this for certain.
Bobby’s not physically in a body.
He’s just… here… existing. Not dead or alive. Somewhere in between.
*
Or - Bobby dies without closure. He needs to visit Buck’s past, present, and future in order to get it. Witness Bobby’s relationship with Buck, and Buck’s relationship with Eddie, through Bobby’s eyes.
