Summary
Jose felt empty and powerless in the wake of losing his family to the sea. After years of wandering, he finally found solace in turning to the Guild of the Vampire Hunters. He swore himself to never have to bear the loss of a beloved again-
Until everything he'd built around himself collapsed.
He'd started from nothing once, yearning for the strength to keep his past from repeating itself but he didn't know if he had it in him to build his life from ground up a second time. Jose turned to the hunt to keep himself afloat- To escape the numbness that overtook his every waking hour.
This was yet another chase, tracking down a mark to stop it from spilling more innocent blood- Until the band of hunters was forced to stop in a humble town with the trail of the creature gone, like vanished into thin air.
Rediscovering the tracks took Jose no further than the very same town but the encounter wasn't at all what the hunter had bargained for.

“There’s a lot of them prowling about.”
“Yeah. I can see four from here.”
“I can only see three?”
“Blue roof. In a bush by the dog house.”
Norton looks at a house with its white painted exterior almost completely degraded, and the blue roof caved in on the left side. A section of the fence has been torn away, and looking through it, Norton sees an infected crouching next to a small dog house, partially obscured by a bush.
“It’s alright. Looks like we’ll be able to get back the same way.” Naib says as he grabs a knife out of his backpack. He slings his duffel over his shoulder. “Ready?”
Norton follows suit, his knife already prepared in his hand.
“As I’ll ever be.”
OR
Norton and Naib navigate the post-apocalypse and each other.
(You do not need to know anything about The Last of Us.)
