There’d been a celebratory dinner with many a toast towards the new babe. Daemon had been a proud father as always, his hand finding its rest on his wife’s already swollen belly more than once. Baela was happy for them, of course she was, despite that strange sour feeling that lingered at the edges of it all.
(How was she supposed to explain that the jealousy that had crept up in her hadn’t been towards the Queen and how she carried a new babe in her belly, but it was jealousy of her father’s accomplishment of putting a babe there in the first place?)
