The moment James hears that Regulus is missing, it’s as if his mind detaches from his body. He disconnects. Something within him breaks. It’s happened before. It’s not too much of a surprise.
The next thing James knows, he’s standing on a battlefield with Voldemort’s dead body in front of him. This is more surprising.
This is what happened while James was gone. James won’t remember it, but he’ll have to live with it when he hears the story.

Summary
Regulus Black gave birth to his son, Harry, on December 6, 1978. He was eighteen years old, his parents turned away from him but he was content on raising the baby alone, living in his old apartment, supported only by his elder brother. Regulus did not need anyone else; he was always alone, and the pregnancy and the childbirth were not going to change that.
Because it was all his fault. He let his crush get the better of him, his love blinded him, and his weakness costed him a mistake that he could not erase.
It was foolish that Regulus would assume that he would remain alone forever. Because no matter what, his mate would always find him and bring him back to remind of the love they shared in their last years of youth.
