Apparently, it wasn’t as easy as just putting a bowl on your head and saying some fancy words, to completely transform yourself into something else. Ed couldn’t just run away and expect to become something he wasn’t overnight.
He had wanted to start over, wipe the slate completely clean with a nice honest family. He had tried to fit in by forcing his shape into something that it wasn’t, until it cracked and popped back to its original form. It didn’t matter how much he rubbed at that slate– it was always gonna have smudges. It would never be a hundred precent clean.
OR
A rewrite of the season two finale, with enough room to allow all those stories and characters to properly breathe. No major canon divergence (except one thing) - just developing what's already there.

They never really talked about "after". It seemed dangerous. All of them moved forward with the determination that they were going to put a stop to Dio, but none of them were blind to the reality that not everyone might make it back home.
They also never talked about an “after” in regards to them.

Following the finale, the hotel and the Vees decide to forbid the now-free Alastor and the now-subdued Vox from seeing each other after the stunt they’ve pulled, afraid they’d cause more trouble for hell.
But obsessive hatred runs quite deep, and if the two can’t find a way to ruin each other’s lives in hell, they’d risk everything to find another way in another place.
Somewhere out there exists a universe in which Alastor and Vox are as close in every sense as possible. Geographically, temporally, emotionally. An alternative version of Al and Vincent on Earth in the modern times. One day, they begin to get spontaneously possessed by their demon counterparts, whose plan consists of tormenting each other in their bodies.
Their possessions won’t always be timely consistent, leading to a few teeny-tiny... mishaps.

After parading Alastor around for all of Pentagram City to see, basking in his victory and his celebration that the Radio Demon is his captive, Vox brings Alastor back to Vee Tower for a conversation.
But as they begin to talk, to reminisce on the past when things fell apart, confessions and truths are brought to the surface, painting everything in a new light for Vox.

In which Alastor accidentally confesses his feelings for Vox, Vox finds out the truth of why he was rejected, and they have sex to cope with the fallout.
