But danger and treachery lurks, along with a difficult lesson in the making. A paradox, really: More often than not, humans are their own worst enemy. And yet, salvation lies within one another.

AKA my friend got me hopelessly addicted to F1 halfway through 2025, and somehow I cooked up a mecha AU space odyssey with a sprinkle of honkai impact 3rd/star rail, and FFXIV influences out of that experience. This will be a long one (because I felt like every driver from that season needed a little love and spotlight in the plot), but I hope you will enjoy this insane project as much as I've been enjoying writing it. (ㅅ´ ˘ `)TLDR: AU with F1 drivers as mecha pilots fighting against evil aliens, with a dash of romance, whimsy, and a lot of relentless optimism against formidable odds.

Summary
"Am I going to die?" Oscar asks, trying to push himself out of the car.
That question made sense to everyone, Oscar was worried about his injuries. That crash was horrible, it makes sense. Oscar could have died then.
He might've, if he was human.
But, Lando was the only one who understood the real meaning behind those words. Oscar is worried that McLaren will destroy him for failing. Simply move on to the next version like they have every time before.
The worst part is, Lando knows it's justified. McLaren has been looking for a reason to kill 'O.P. 8.1', and this might be it.
Or,
'Oscar Piastri 8.1' is McLaren's latest attempt at an android driver. Most versions were emotionless husks, designed to drive and nothing more. Lando, Oscar's newest engineer, decides to give him emotions.
Soon, they will both realize why McLaren hasn't given Oscar emotions.
(And maybe they fall for each other in the meantime)

Summary
Lando decides that out of the kindness of his heart he’ll swing by Oscar’s office on his way to his own and make sure that the Australian hasn’t been hacked. Or kidnapped.
The fastest route back to their offices takes Lando by the sim room. Someone’s left the light on, which wasn’t very sustainable of them, so Lando steps in the room to turn it off. His finger is about to flip the switch when he hears something and freezes. Lando knows he’s not alone in the building but the noise still sets him on edge- a sign that he’s maybe been playing too many horror games recently.
He clears his throat. “Um. Hello?”
Over the back of the sim seat a cowlick slowly emerges, almost comical in its suspense. Then a forehead. Then two round brown eyes.

"Oscar…" Mark drags it out like he is about to reprimand him. "Do you want to eat someone?"OR: Oscar is a rabbit hybrid. Carlos is a fox hybrid. Oscar is terrified that Carlos might want to eat him, so he tries to face his fears via exposure. Carlos interprets Oscar's sudden interest in spending time with him a bit differently.

Eventually Oscar couldn't hold it back anymore. "How does it work? The blood thing. The compulsion to drink it."
Lando blinked, clearly not expecting that question.
"I'm serious," Oscar continued, his nurse-brain fully engaged now. "Why does it have to be blood specifically? What about other bodily fluids? And what part of the blood are you actually consuming? The hemoglobin? The iron? Plasma proteins? Is it the stem cells in the bone marrow? What's the active ingredient?"
Lando stared at him for a moment, then let out a surprised laugh. "You sound like you're trying to write a research paper."
"I'm trying to understand," Oscar said. "Clinically. Scientifically. If this is real—and clearly it is—then there has to be some kind of mechanism. Some explanation."Or: Oscar Piastri is a dedicated and morally sound nurse and Lando Norris is a hundred-year old nervous wreck of a vampire, and Lando's been feeding on Oscar's favorite patient. And oh, they're neighbors.

Summary
It was the freshest bit of gossip the whole school had the minute Oscar Piastri enrolled. Everyone spoke about the son of a Death Eater attending Hogwarts.
Piastri is off-putting, yes. Eerily stoic at times and a growing nuisance to Lando when he bests him at duels in front of everyone. But does Lando think this kid is some evil and dangerous wizard? Frankly, he couldn’t care less about what this kid is.
He just needs to beat him next time they’re opponents.
OR
Lando and Oscar are rivals with a deep rooted hatred for each other, both vying to win a prestigious competition at Hogwarts. But the road to becoming a victor will be tricky as they become each other’s distraction and obsession.
