Summary
While Sara loved to tease and send her flirty posts to varying degrees of cheesiness, ridiculousness, or downright horniness, Ava very much did not return the favour. Until now. It was time to give Sara a taste of her own medicine.

When Sara had heard her phone ding ten minutes after she’d sent her last flirty, teasing text, she’d expected it to be another one of Ava’s exasperated complaints about sexting during work hours, or getting her turned on while she was on the clock. She was so sure of it, in fact, that she already had a smirk on her face just thinking about the reaction she’d get out of Ava this time.
So she was of course rather surprised, when, instead of the reply she’d been expecting, the only thing in the message was a link to an Instagram reel. Intrigued, and with an eyebrow raised, she opened it.

Ava pressed another kiss to the top of Sara’s head. ‘It shouldn’t’ve had to happen,’ she said quietly, her voice still shaking with rage. ‘It … I wish I could change it.’
Sara's returning smile was tight, a little forced, but somehow more whole as she agreed ‘Me too,’ before pulling away and adding ‘But it all led me here. And if changing it meant never having met any of you or being who I am today … I don’t know that I would, even if I had the chance.’
Or, Sara's past comes back to haunt her and she's not ready, but at least Ava and Zari are there to pick up the pieces.

“It wasn’t until she was nine that Liv realised none of the jerseys neatly folded in her wardrobe matched up to the one Sara was wearing in the photo her parents had proudly framed on the bookshelf downstairs. She’d spent hours looking at that photo, at Ava’s arm around Sara’s shoulders, at the streaks of mud on Sara’s knees and the flush on her cheeks, the delighted exhilarated sparkle in her eyes, the blurred crowd in the background - so she wasn’t sure how she hadn’t noticed before now.
It was the same jersey Sara had on in the SCHS senior year team photos she’d seen, that classic deep blue with LANCE, 7, emblazoned across it and a delicate wolf design spreading out from the top left corner, the emblem of the team she couldn’t wait to play for.”
