“You know,” says Tommy, startling Buck just a little – god, has Buck really been so lost in his own thoughts he’d missed Tommy waking up beneath him? “I can hear you thinking from up here. Everything okay?”
Buck tries and fails to keep himself from huffing a halfhearted and voiceless laugh through his nose, closes his eyes and rubs his face back and forth on Tommy’s pec a few times like he’s trying to burrow under his skin. There’s a lot of words to describe what everything is right now – nightmare, disaster, one more relationship he’s managed to ruin – but okay isn’t even close to one of them.
“I think we need to talk,” he tries to say, but all that makes it out of his mouth is a quiet “I”, and fuck, this was not how this was supposed to go.
