“Oh, c’mon! You don’t need a date night with Ilya. Without kids, every night can be date night. Jackie and I have been planning this outing for 3 weeks. I just forgot to call the babysitter until today, and now she is busy,” Hayden had that tone again. The one he used whenever talking about Ilya and Shane’s relationship. “Can’t you skip date night or move it to Montreal and take the kids with you?”
Shane wasn’t sure how to respond. His first thought was just to say ‘no’ outright, but he knew that would result in making Hayden mad at him. “How about Ilya and I check our schedules and try to come out to babysit next week? We have a few nights next week where we will be in Ottawa before we leave on the road for 4 games.”
Or Shane Hollander finally realizes Hayden is not a great friend.

Ilya opened his mouth to say something he had prepared beforehand — something mildly snarky, but pleasant enough it could be construed as welcoming. But all thoughts vanished from his mind when his eyes briefly flicked over Hayden’s face and found something so egregious and so delightfully ridiculous that Ilya momentarily forgot how to speak.

Summary
The boys weekend at the cottage is supposed to mend whatever's left of Shane, Hayden, and JJ's friendship after Shane's move to Ottawa. After constant jabs towards his relationship and the love of his life lead Shane to a panic attack, Hayden is left to deal with the fact that Ilya is a better husband than he thought. In room 1410, Ilya Rozanov is ready to walk out the door after successfully getting his 19 year old hockey rival into bed. Covers the first two years of their rookie seasons (which is mostly skipped over in the show/books). Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Most things are from the show but the timeline is a mix of both; Hunter and Marleau are aged up per the show instead of as young as they are in the books. (Also, Shane and Ilya don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.)
