Once sanctimonious, the silence that permeated the air seemed almost hunted, after so many years. The decrepit edifice housing it stood in the middle of what one could barely recognize as a town square, the wild vegetation having consumed what was left of the small village which saw the fall of mankind. The gothic structure working as a centerpiece is no less sparred from the reclaiming nature, despite its intended holiness. Its looming tower is the only thing that indicates its long-lost glory, for today, with its roof caved in and its mosaic window chipped, it was just one of the many relics of a civilization long gone.

I thought writing an exchange with an inanimate object would be a good way to improve my dialogues, so please don’t hesitate to leave a Kudo or some constructive criticism in the comments : )

Summary
It was a cold, dark, night, like it usually is in stories of this kind, as all must know, when I first set foot into the House of Douayhi.
Waiting for the guardian to open the door for me, and well, in an effort to distract myself from the biting cold really, I let my eyes wander around what they could see of the property. With its pointed archway and ornate corners, its Gate already foretold what type of architecture you would find inside. Despite how many times I got the chance to admire the old and beautiful shapes with their vivid lilac and blue, Middle Eastern architecture never ceased to amaze me.
Unfortunately, this building had been neglected for years, the carved shapes chipped at the corners, and the lilac not all so vivid anymore...

I've been reading a lot of gothic and fantastique books for Uni and I felt inspired to write something along the same lines. The main inspiration for it is a short story called Omphale by Theophile Gautier that I highly recommend. Anyway, this is my first time posting on Ao3 and English is not my first language so I'd appreciate it if anyone who reads this could leave a comment. Constructive criticism is definitely welcome.

Summary
Lady Auric is tired. She has been alive for far too long, and while her home in the great city of Azzina by the Shore is beautiful, it has not felt like home in many years. Dust-bunnies have bred in every corner of the manor, and she cannot bring herself to take on another servant after the loss of her last.
Nevertheless, she is one of the Triarchs of Azzina. As such, she knows everything that goes on in her city. So when rumor of a girl bearing impossible resemblance to an old enemy roaming Azzina arises, Lady Auric pursues alongside the city guards.
A girl who cannot remember her name and who has spent far too much time on the streets finds herself in the care of the noblewoman Lady Auric, who calls her Cordelia. She’s unfamiliar with the charity and compassion after all her time alone, and the manor she now calls home needs love. Lady Auric needs a maid, and Cordelia insists that it be her.
Two women find themselves in an impossible dance. Can Lady Auric forgive Cordelia for sins that her maid doesn’t even remember? Can Cordelia regain her memories? Does Lady Auric even want her to? And why can’t they stop thinking about one another?
It’s all so terribly unprofessional.
