When Chu Wanning was far too old for it, he met a young boy. This boy was fifteen summers - almost - and smiled at him and called him beautiful. Called him kind-looking. Called him Shizun, eventually, as though he could ever deserve such a title from the softest boy he ever knew.
Then there were the worms. The boy - Mo Ran, Xue Zhengyong's nephew - is kind and sweet, and he leans down and tries to save the earthworms that have crawled out after every rain for as long as Chu Wanning has seen them. Chu Wanning, of course, cannot help himself, and leans down to aid him in his work, slow and steady as it is.
