Disconnected oneshots in an AU where everyone is grasshopper people.
AU setting primer:
In real life, some species of grasshoppers will under crowded conditions, as are caused by some types of food scarcity, “gregarize”, becoming gregarious grasshoppers, which are also known as locusts. Locusts are drawn to each other and form swarms, and generally have dramatically different social behavior, as well as aposematic patterning. Under more typical conditions, these grasshoppers are instead solitarious, and generally avoid each other except to mate, and have cryptic patterning.
In reality, these states seem to operate on something of a binary switch, with a small transitionary stage between the two in either direction (plus only minimal and pigment-additive changes in patterns before molting), but for the purposes of this AU, in which there are grasshopper people instead of humans, I treat it as more of a spectrum, with most people falling somewhere in the middle, and either extreme being quite unusual.- Words:

Summary
Jon has escaped his captivity by the Circus, and he’s trying to understand what’s happening to him. Both specifically, and also generally, as in, why is this happening to him? Meanwhile, Helen is dealing with some recent changes to her entire existence and could use someone to talk to. Someone who can commiserate.
Also, Jon is a grasshopper and Helen is a bat. They are both sick.

Two weeks before the premiere of the biggest film of Dave's career, Bro kills himself.
“Dead,” Dirk repeats over the phone. “Bro is D-E-A-D, dead. The apartment is a shithole. Even though the man of the hour is staying in Chez Morgue Drawer, he did a number on the place first. I wouldn’t be asking if I could handle it myself.”
“Just call the Hoarders people. He’s your guy. I didn’t even know him.” Despite being iteration ten thousand, the lie feels less natural than it usually does. “I don’t need to be there. Neither of us do.”
“Totally.” Dirk sounds like sidewalk. “Yeah, no, that was my first thought, but then I slept on it and applied a modicum of critical thinking. In that 'Puppet Fetish Porn Studio Unearthed in Childhood Home of Indie Darling' is gonna boost neither of our ratings.”
Despite the tags, this is a comedy. Or is it?

Summary
Jon coughed again, and blood stained his lips and blood stained Martin’s hands where they pressed against Jon’s back and blood stained the floor beneath them and help, they needed help.
Martin doesn’t remember shouting. He barely remembers the faces that had surrounded them, wide-eyed and terrified, all utterly unfamiliar.

Jon and Martin wake up somewhere else. Jon begins a slow path toward physical recovery, and several important, long-put-off conversations are had as they begin to navigate a new world that they hadn’t thought they’d be alive to see.
