He’d told her once or twice, how he’d tried to return her to Athena. It’d been a joke to him—talking about how he wanted Athena to raise Annabeth on Olympus. He’d told the story like a silly anecdote, how he’d placed her back in the basket she’d come in, wrapped her up in her blankets, and went looking for Athena. Originally, Annabeth giggled along with the story. She didn’t really understand it—all things considered, she was only five.
All she knew was that her father was telling a story that involved her name, and that made her feel special.
It made her feel loved.
