The detail that had taken the most time (as small as it was), were small oak leaves. Three spanned the width of the bead, so no matter which way it was twisted one would always show.
A symbol of the strength and resilience of a king, forever embedded in this little bead, personally handcrafted by Bilbo.In which no small act of observation goes wasted, Thorin yearns like he has no other purpose, and Bilbo's act of kindness saves the line of Durin.

A silly hobbit one shot.
Hobbits being beardless is cultural, not biological. Hobbit men shave. And for weeks Bilbo’s been shaving without any of the Company noticing. But Bilbo lost his shaving razor somewhere under the Misty Mountains, and by the time they reach Beorn’s, he’s got quite a beard going. The dwarves appropriately freak out (especially the royal brooding one). Bilbo doesn’t notice and makes pie.
Or, a one-shot featuring the dwarvish equivalent of the overalls-wearing girl taking off her glasses and putting on a sundress trope.

I love the expansion on dwarrow culture in this fic and seeing how each gift shows each dwarf’s care and love for Bilbo. “Right so, courting went badly. He tried to–” began Dwalin.
“Yes exactly! But I didn’t fall for it!” said Bilbo.
“Then you do not like him?”
“Of course I do!”Bilbo is thoroughly disoriented when Thorin starts treating him as a friend, after weeks of quite explicit hostility. Even more when he cannot deny that Thorin is flirting with him. Almost, he allows himself to believe the dwarf could be genuine in his care. That's before he recognizes the pattern for what it is; a wicked trick to rip the only friends Bilbo ever truly had from him. He refuses to be deceived like that again.
Thorin is mostly confused and hurt, when his attempts at courting seem to result in pure fury and hatred.

The first thing Thorin sees when he wakes up is his own hand resting on the bedsheets. Atop it rests another, smaller hand. It feels warm and looks soft, the skin unworried by forge burns and blemishes. It is not a dwarf’s hand; he knows as much. Yet he cannot quite gather for himself if that is of any importance.
Or, Thorin loses his memory and quite forgets that the hobbit by his bedside whom he wishes to court and marry is already his husband. Everyone else find this hilarious.

Draco looked over at him, smiling in spite of himself at the way Harry had shoved his glasses up into his hair to rub his eyes. “They win, I’m a terrible teacher and they’ve learned nothing.”
Draco rolled his eyes, “Don’t be dramatic.”
His boyfriend shoved several rolls of parchment on to the floor and out of the way so he’d have a clear view of Draco, and then he glared at him, “Draco, the question was ‘name the wispy, smoke like creature that lures travelers to their deaths by posing as guides in marshes’?”
“And?”
“Their answers? A mermaid,” he said, holding up one paper, “As though mermaids are going to pop out onto the land in marshes!”
“Well, you didn’t necessarily say they were coming on land.”
“I did say they were wispy and smoke like, though!” he protested. “And they know what mermaids look like! They’ve seen them in real life.”
Draco nodded his head, conceding the point.
“And this student,” Harry said, waving a second parchment, “wrote, werewolves.”
Draco bit the inside of his lips to keep from laughing but Harry didn’t seem to notice.

It such a sweet gentle reminder that even when it seems like what I’m doing is pointless it will always be worth it; and that the most important thing is not what a child can memorize or recite, but that they are becoming good small humans.
