Karasu grabbed the edge of the locker door harder.
“Do yah ever take anythin’ seriously?”
“Hmm… nope.”
Karasu felt heat crawl up the back of his neck. Whether it was embarrassment or anger, he didn’t know. Didn’t want to know.
“Get. Out. Of. The locker,” Karasu hissed, temper finally slipping.
Otoya sighed dramatically, as if Karasu were ruining the best nap of his life. “Okay, okay. Chill.” He shifted, one leg unfolding, the other bracing against the edge. “I’ll get out.”
Karasu let out a long breath.
“Eventually.”
Karasu nearly exploded.
“Otoya—!”
Karasu can’t believe he's going treasure hunting for a boy who’s skipping class. He might as well just head back now because he can’t find the missing student anywhere—

Bachira turned his head to look at Isagi, who had closed his eyes, the sun lighting up his dark hair and blue lashes.
He smiled softly.
Every sound that came from Isagi was precious to him—his laughter, his gasp when Bachira did something silly, even the quiet hums when Isagi thought too hard about something. Bachira loved them all.
He didn’t need a soccer ball or a crowd or even his monster to be happy anymore. Just this—just Isagi beside him, their hands brushing in the grass, sunlight dancing across their faces.
He didn’t really know what love was—not the kind adults talked about—but whatever he felt for Isagi had to be close. It filled up his chest so completely it almost hurt.
“You know, Isagi,” he said suddenly, voice quieter now, “I think we’re gonna be together forever.”
Isagi cracked one eye open and gave him a crooked smile. “Forever’s a long time, Bachira.”

Summary
“Sae,” Rin whispered suddenly, voice so hushed it made Sae sit up straighter. “Look! Look what I found!”
Sae slid off the swing, brushing the dirt from his shorts as he trudged over, prepared to see a rock or maybe a beetle. Instead, Rin cupped his hands and revealed a tiny ball of fluff.
It was a bunny—except not like any bunny Sae had ever seen. Its fur shimmered a dark, dusky blue, like the sky before it turned fully night. Two strands of fur on its head jutted up in the strangest way, like a sprout trying to push out of the soil. Its tiny nose twitched, and its ears, though floppy, perked slightly at the sound of Rin’s excited giggling.
“It’s… ugly,” Sae muttered, frowning as if nature had made some kind of mistake. “Ew, probably dirty too.”
“It’s special,” Rin declared firmly, sitting right down in the grass so the bunny could wiggle against his lap. His little fingers stroked its fur so gently, as if afraid it might break. “See? It likes me.”

That was the closest thing to a confession Otoya had ever let slip, and even then, he framed it in a way that made it sound hypothetical, safe. Yukimiya could read between the lines—he always could. The way Otoya shoved the truth behind a wall of if he was a girl spoke volumes.
Yukimiya let out a slow breath, his expression softening. “Why does it matter if he isn’t?” he asked gently.
Otoya froze for the smallest fraction of a second, eyes flicking to Yukimiya’s face. But then he scoffed, pushing away from the sink like the question hadn’t touched him. “’Cause it just does. That’s not how it works. He’s a guy. He’s hands down my best friend, no questions. I’d never date him though, I’m not gay, I don’t see guys like that”

Rin chewed slowly at the next slice Sae pressed against his lips, but halfway through, his throat hitched. His small body shivered beneath the blankets, and when Sae looked up, he saw the tears spilling from Rin’s eyes. Silent at first, just rolling down his hollow cheeks, but then his lips trembled and he tried to turn his face away as if he didn’t want Sae to see.
“Rin…” Sae whispered, his hand hovering uselessly in the air, the tangerine segment forgotten between his fingers.
Rin’s voice came out in broken gasps, the sound tearing against his fragile lungs. “I—… I don’t… want to die.” His eyes squeezed shut, tears soaking into the pillow, breaths shuddering like his body couldn’t hold them. “I’m scared, big brother.”

The coffee shop date had gone better than perfect. It had been warm, simple, and unshaken by performance. No teasing eyes from classmates. No feeling like he had to look over his shoulder when Karasu’s hand brushed his under the table. Just them. Just real.
But now the buzz of it had dulled into something quieter. He could still hear Karasu’s voice in his head—“You’re stupid enough to like me, apparently.” And Otoya’s smile had been so wide then. He hadn’t wanted it to end.
Which brought him here, sitting in his room at 7:42 PM, psyching himself up to tell his parents he was dating a boy.
