Pearl woke with a start, lifting her head from a soft down pillow. It was dim, wherever she was. She was lying on a massive bed in a room she did not recognize: clearly a bedroom, with the bed in the centre of the wall and a wardrobe and vanity set across from her, heavy velvet curtains draped over tall windows and two doors: one wooden and ajar, and the other… heavy iron.
She was not alone. She could smell them, the other person: a young male wolf. A werewolf like herself.
“You’re awake,” came a voice. “That’s good. The Lord Master said you’d likely be out for another hour yet, but you’re strong, aren’t you?”
