Wei Ying had been using his hands to toy with Lan Zhan’s hair cutely, they both dropped to his lap now.
“Sweetness, I think it’s time you took a pregnancy test,” Lan Zhan said patiently, bringing one of Wei Ying’s limp hands up to his lips again.

Wei Ying and his husband Lan Zhan recently came off birth control with the idle thought that maybe they would get pregnant at some point down the line...
They certainly weren't expecting it to take almost immediately.

“Can I stay here with you guys while I check this, please?” Wei Ying asked in a small and shaky voice as he placed a pregnancy test face down on the coffee table. “Lan Zhan’s not home yet and I don’t want to look at it alone.”
For a brief moment, Lan Qiren somehow forgot that Wangji and his omega were married adults and in a perfectly reasonable stage of life to start trying for a family, and he worried that he and Xichen were going to have to console Wei Wuxian through the discovery of an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy.
“It’s just that I don’t think I can handle getting another negative result right now,” Wei Ying whispered glumly.

For Wei Ying's 17th birthday, his best friend Lan Zhan gives him a jar full of origami stars to decorate his room. Lan Zhan buys the colorful paper himself, cuts them in little stripes, and folds each tiny star carefully.
What Wei Ying doesn't know, is that Lan Zhan wrote a confession inside each of the stars.

The intern flinches, eyes flicking to Wei Wuxian’s badge.
“Dr. Lan? He’s- he’s being prepped for surgery. OR three.”
The words hit him like a physical blow.

Wei Wuxian is the head nurse in the ER. Lan Wangji is a cardiac surgeon. Their lives are simple, even if it involves poor Wen Ning having to babysit A-Yuan half the time, but they make it work, even if they both return home sometimes at 3am in the morning.
Then one day, A-Yuan comes into the ER.
