Enter Thranduil Oropherion: widowed, wealthy, and new in town with a son. When he sees Bard at the registration desk, sees the math happening behind his eyes, the moment he realizes he can't afford it, the way he turns to his children apologetically, Thranduil moves without much thought. His arms go around the stranger’s waist; a casual “Darling, I’ve got this” is a lie that costs him nothing and saves a family from disappointment. As a father, he knows what it does to a child's face when hope runs out.
It's a one-time lie. They'll never see each other again.
Then they discover the family discount includes shared accommodations. For the whole summer.

As Thorin navigates an unwanted second chance at life and old feelings resurfacing, flashbacks reveal the events that tore him and Thranduil apart in the first place.

When mysterious inscriptions in ancient elvish begin to appear in the lowest levels of Erebor one Thorin Oakenshield is forced to reach out to the one university his team has yet to burn their bridges with: Imladris University. But one Professor Bilbo Baggins was not what Thorin was expecting and in between deciphering these strange inscriptions, which seem to be some strange love story between two ancient warriors, and his team getting attacked in more and more sinister ways, perhaps the love story that unfolds before them is not the only one taking place.
