Summary
Over the clanking of trunks being loaded on trolleys and the cacophonous babbling of children greeting parents, two brothers sat silently in a quickly-emptying train. The younger one was terrified, knew that the only thing waiting for himself and his brother was disaster. He held onto his brother’s sleeve with a white-knuckle grip, chewing on the inside of his lips until he tasted blood. The older had spent the ride pretending he was fine, that his life at school was as he liked it and that his life at home was something better than hell. The only thing that grounded him was the sound of his baby brother’s shallow breaths and the knowledge that he was still alive to take them. He intended to make sure his brother stayed breathing for however long he damn-well chose to, even if he had to buy that freedom with his own life.
“Do you remember the plan?” the older asked.
“Yes,” the younger nodded.

Summary
If anyone else had walked into the train compartment and taken a perfunctory look, they likely would’ve assumed that Sirius Black was sleeping. He was face down on the grimy bench, lips slightly parted, yielding to shallow but loud breaths, his hair splayed wildly across his back, clothed in layers of undershirts and robes despite the early September heat.
But James Potter was not anyone else, and he understood that Sirius was not asleep. Sirius was in pain.

The boys take care of Sirius on the Hogwarts Express after a rough summer.

Summary
Sirius could follow suit and go into a wardrobe, but once James checks one, he’ll check them all. Sirius closes his eyes tightly, visualizes the room around him, searches for its cracks, its pockets of darkness, its faults. The same way he does with Grimmauld.
And it comes to him. James will search under every bed and inside every wardrobe, but he won’t look under the wardrobes.
OR
A game of hide-and-seek quickly turns dark for Sirius.

Summary
There is one constant at Hogwarts: One new Defence Teacher every term. Everyone knew it. They also learned to keep their expectations low.
James wasn't sure how the new teacher was able to destroy even the lowest of expectations, but here they were.
Professor Young (or in full: Professor Flynn Ulrich Clayton Kendrick Young) was an idiot who went undefeated. So how was it possible that he still learned from him?Or
Harry has no idea how he ended up in the past and managed to become the DADA teacher at Hogwarts, but he knows one thing for sure: He won’t be one of Dumbledore's pawns, and he won't be pulled into the bubbling war, if that means he has to play the idiot, so be it. He had enough incompetent teachers to know how to play the role.
