Summary
“Hey, Diaz? Take it from someone who’s been there — it’s not as scary as you think it’ll be.”
Eddie frowns. He glances at Buck, as if Buck has any idea what Tommy is talking about. “What’s not?”
“I like to think I’m uniquely positioned to say it’s worth it.”
Or, Buck is not in love with his best friend, and Eddie is super straight. For sure. Definitely.

Summary
Months ago, chaos descended upon Los Angeles, and the world soon followed. Everything changed — suddenly, completely, irrevocably. However, all in all, Evan Buckley thinks he's got it figured out pretty good.
That is, until a chance encounter flips his life upside down. Again.
Surviving an apocalypse wasn't easy.
Surviving an apocalypse, having suddenly acquired a child, was even harder.
When that child had some special needs, and you were just a— nobody, really— a guy with maybe one serious relationship under his belt, a probationary firefighter already suffering from a work-related injury, a hothead who had never given much thought to his future— the task became seemingly impossible.
Evan Buckley could tell you all about it. But he would also tell you this—he doesn't wish for any other path. Because, even though it may seem to many that he was the one saving the child, giving him a chance of surviving, Evan knew the truth.
It was Christopher Diaz who saved him.

Summary
“Eddie, I’m in love with you,” he says, heart thrumming in his chest, in his throat, in his mouth. He feels hot and cold and dizzy by turns.
“What?” asks Eddie faintly, barely even a question.
“I’m in love with you,” Buck says again. “I didn’t know, I didn’t mean to, but I am. I am.”
“You– Right, okay,” says Eddie, so visibly buffering that it makes Buck’s heart clench a little in his chest. Of course he’s in love with Eddie. How could he possibly have let himself pretend otherwise. “Wasn’t expecting this, bud,” says Eddie, and he sounds so shocked that Buck can’t help a wry smile. Of course Eddie’s surprised. They must be the only two people in existence who didn’t already know. “I– Buck, man, you know that I care about you, but…”
“I know,” he says gently to Eddie, because he did know, but that doesn't make this moment hurt any less.
---
Post season 8, Buck confesses his feelings, Eddie lets him down as gently as he can, and they both try to figure out how to be just friends.
