"What the fuck happened to your arm?" Ian asks, crossing the remaining distance between them lightning quick, his voice hard in the way it gets when he's upset.
He looks down at his arm, notices how blood has seeped through the initial bandages, which makes it looks way worse than it actually is. Mickey shrugs.
"Some stupid kid at the new— hey, watch it!" he yells out as Ian grabs his bicep, pulling his arm towards him. It doesn't hurt or anything, Ian doesn't even graze the injury, but still. A warning would've been nice.
"Who the hell bandaged this? It's horrible," Ian says, brows furrowed.
"Me, dipshit," Mickey replies dryly.

He tries not to sound sceptical, but it wouldn’t have been his first guess. Or his second, really. Not even third. Probably way down the list after ‘adventure sports’ and ‘visiting the Mexican resort where he’d worked for the cartel’. But Mickey looks back at him with the most excited grin on his face. He sees through Ian’s hesitance and just grins.
“This place is gonna be amazing, c’mon… you’ll see.”

Mickey stares at Ian’s hand on his arm and nods.
“It’s… real,” Ian says, smiling. “You know?”

It’s been a while, thirty-four days to be exact. And add another month and a bit to that one fluke of a Tuesday night, and you have an ironic dry spell of sixty-nine sexless days. At first it was about the new meds, Ian knows this, Mickey is a goddamned saint about new cocktails messing with their sex life. But somewhere along the line it became about something else.

As he falls in love with the creeping mosses and raging tides of the Puget Sound, Ian discovers there are more strange and terrifying creatures hiding under the dark ocean than he imagined. To his horror, Ian can’t manage to react appropriately to one distinctly not human inhabitant who seems determined to get under his skin.
