Summary
Interior designer Charlie Spring needs a change, and it just so happens that his best friend is hunkered down in Scotland to work on his book. When a series of jobs come up across the Highlands and Islands, he decides to take the leap and join Isaac up north. Even though the first job is renovating a rugby clubhouse, of all things.
Enter team captain, Nick Nelson. He’s prickly, petulant and grumpy, and Charlie immediately wishes he’d never met him. He’s always known that rugby players are, by default, arseholes, and Nick certainly isn’t changing his mind on that one.

Summary
When Charlie boldly approaches Nick at a bar one night, he’s quickly rebuffed, but ends up hearing from Nick several days later.
Turns out, Nick is questioning a lot of things. Charlie thinks he knows how stories like this end, but is thrown for a loop when Nick says he wants to take things slow. (This doesn’t work out for either of them.)

A more polished version of Nick would have been a catastrophe, if he was the type of man to wear very expensive French cologne and designer jeans and proper shoes, or if he moisturised his face correctly, or was, in general, less of a boy-next-door dork, then, that’d be terrible, because a face like that would not have gone unnoticed forever, and someone obscene would have propped him on a pedestal and made him their plaything, and Charlie hated the thought so much that something wild in his chest bared its teeth.

Welcome to my AU kicking off in the 80s, inspired by photos of Connor with longer hair that sent me on a trip down memory lane featuring some of my girlhood crushes. I could just so easily see a long-hair Ilya grinning at a scruffy Shane in a battered Foreigner shirt, and here we are. We first meet them in 1983, when they have been playing hockey together at the University of Minnesota for a bit. We will follow them until 2003.
