Many a man could say they had taken the carriage with Tsurumi. It was the state in which they came out of it that gave everyone an idea of how politics would’ve shifted from that day onwards. A well rested man, arrived in time to his destination without the slightest inconvenience, would probably be estranged from his party within the month, while a man who was way too late for the gala and didn’t seem to have noticed neither step nor valet offering to help him up, would probably shake hands with the highest in charge by the end of the night.

Ogata swayed on his heels slightly and tried to play it off as an intentional movement. He embraced the shift of his balance to drop into a slightly more casual pose. His bored, staring eyes zoning in on the slight twitch at the corners of Tsurumi’s lips, meeting the neat curl of that foppish mustache.
“You should rest now. We can strategize a new approach in the morning,” Tsurumi invited him further inside, his hand drew a line from where Ogata had paused to the bed which was pushed against the back wall of his quarters. “A fresh head at dawn, inspired by the creative dreams of an inebriated mind, eh?”
