Tom held out a hand to stop you. “Just- just let me think.” He takes a sip of his alcohol; you can practically see the gears turning in his head, steam coming out of his ears.
He rubs a hand through his hair and points at you, “And you’re a ghost.”
“Yes, Tom.” You sigh out. Even though you aren’t sure you could get tired, you can feel the invisible eye bags tugging at you.
He paces back and forth in front of you, staring at you, his glass empty. He’s pressing it against his face as he does.
“Is there anything else I should know?” He says tiredly.
“I think that was all of it.”

Maleficent’s head tilted up, catching Diaval's gaze. Her eyes were full of something that she couldn’t name, her mouth parted, and she whispered an apology, “I’m sorry.”
Diaval dared look her fully in the eye; her amber eyes were blown wide, her eyebrows creased once again. Diaval’s heart thudded heavily, blood rushing in her ears, sure that her face was bright red. Both of her hands were on either side of Maleficent’s horns; she slowly lowered them to cradle her face. To her shock and slight horror, Maleficent leaned into the touch, eyes closing.
Her tongue turned to lead; she had nothing to say—like still water, Diaval was afraid to cause a ripple and ruin the beauty that lay in front of her. So they stayed still like statues, though Diaval’s thumb strayed and caressed her sharp cheekbone; her skin was soft and pliant, and warm, so warm.
The spell was broken with a distant yell from down below, Aurora.

As he reaches for his pistol and hears footsteps coming from behind him, he snatches the gun quickly, turning around and aiming at whoever was there. And there stood Nathan Drake, slightly hunched, his face full of sand and sunburn, with his own barrel staring him down.
They both hold their ground, unfortunately for him, his hand was shaking, the metal digging into the gash in his hand. But if he looked closer, Nathan’s hands were shaking around his gun too, unsteady and wavering. His brows were furrowed together, there was a certain glint in his eye, trying to figure out if he was friend or foe.

His phone announced it was Dana—and it was 0721—which shot a little thrum of worry through him as he answered. "What happened?" he asked, no preamble. She wouldn't wake him if shit hadn't gone sideways.
"Robby hasn't come in yet and he's not answering his phone," she said, voice grim. "He's never missed a shift without calling." She spoke quietly, probably standing in the middle of the ED, trying to keep up a brave face for everyone else. As much as she could, anyway. People tended to notice when the fucking chief attending didn't show up to work.
