“I’m— I’m not just going to leave you here when I know you’re.. suffering. Not when I know that I could.. that I could help. How ever you’ll let me. I- If.. you'll let me.”
Jax looks at her blankly, expression disturbingly unreadable.
“… Okay.”
“..Okay..?” Ragatha repeats in question.
“Okay,” Jax sighs again, allowing his knees to fall away from his chest. “You can.. help me. Do whatever you want.”

He wasn’t himself anymore.
The worst part about it was that he couldn’t do anything to change that now. The whole point of changing these things, to make himself better, was because he thought everyone else would like him more. That point had been proven so many times and not only had the team appreciated him more but Nya had complimented him often and been a lot more affectionate.
Everyone seemed to love him better now that he was different.
It’s like he was holding a gun at his own reflection. He didn’t know what to do. He was still completely broken even when he thought he was better.
OR
The constant comparison of Jay to Cole starts to weigh down on Jay that he thinks changing himself will make everyone like him more.. including Nya.

Nya didn’t like the look of Jay looking stricken at Ras’s feet, white-knuckled with failure. She liked the feeling of fighting him even less. It was almost nauseating. She couldn’t hurt him, she couldn’t, she would forfeit before she had the chance to— and it’s all back to wouldn’t and couldn’t, but the truth was that she already had.
Jay might’ve killed her if she hadn’t. That was the worst part.
