After torching the tunnels, Steve takes the kids back to the Byers' house. He then crashes from his adrenaline high, causing concern from not only the kids, but Hopper as well. His injuries were clearly in need of being evaluated, so Hopper steps up to the plate.

“Dunno. Probably just tired.” He drawls, closing his left eye and putting the tape back in the right place.
“Yeah, probably.” She affirms, letting him trek back to the counter and take a seat. “But you could make an appointment.”
“Alright, mom.” He replies, scrubbing a hand up his face.
She smiles at him in a way which hopefully doesn’t scream ‘my best friend has brain damage and I’m trying very hard to be chill about that.’

Summary
Eddie stops dead in his tracks as Jeff's roommate turns to meet his gaze.
Eddie doesn't believe in God, doesn't believe in angels -- he likes to think Demons exist, but that's more of an aesthetic thing than anything else -- but he's pretty sure he's in the presence of an angel.
No, he's certain he is.
"Hey, I'm Steve," the angel says, extending a hand out to Eddie.
Jesus H. Christ, it's bigger than any hand has any right to be. Eddie's mind immediately wonders what else might be bigger than most. He can't help it.
"You must be Jeff," he smiles. "It's nice to finally meet you."
"Yeah, that's me!" Eddie says without thinking it through. He scrambles to put the box down and reaches out to shake Steve's hand. “I’m Jeff!”
Or:
Eddie falls in love with Jeff's new roommate and tries to convince him to let him pretend to be him so he can woo Steve.

Summary
To be fair, Steve didn’t think that Eddie would notice. It’s not like he took something big, it was just a ring that he found lying around Eddie’s room. He never saw Eddie wear it, the other chose to wear the same four that he’d been wearing for the past few months and he never really changed up his signature look. And the ring wasn’t even his style! It looked like a vine with a leaf or two wrapping around the finger and it was dainty. Totally unlike his other gawdy rings, so Steve took it and maybe he’s been wearing it almost every second of every day since he did.
OR Steve collects things, usually not stolen. Usually from his friends and family. Steve just likes the memories they bring.
