"Cypher, shut it down!" Cypher could barely listen to Sova through the wall of his own concentration. This was the fastest he had ever typed on a keyboard, even to the point of typing in some wrong inputs.
"Give me a moment!" The wheels on the frankly uncomfortable chair rolled at mach speed, Cypher's hat almost falling off as he flew from screen to screen, colors flashing in his eyes. The screams only became more painful and loud as time went on. He was not losing his family again.
(If there are any gods out there,) Cypher thought to himself. (Please, just grant me this one wish. Don't take what is most precious to me again!)
Not him. Anyone but him.
The one person he could understand the best.
The person who helped him understand how to connect with people again.
He couldn't lose the person he loved again.
