Two years into Ryland Grace's trip to Erid, and the scientist was starting to take a turn for the worse. Passing by a random transmission, the Hail Mary was slowly starting to die. The Nanny-Bot was fucked, he was missing a fuel tank, and the communications was driving him insane.
It surprises him when he hears what sound like a humans voice- English no less.

Summary
3 months have passed since Simon’s sub, the SM-13, showed up in Erid’s orbit. Rocky and Grace were able to extract Simon and help him through his rehabilitation. Rocky designed and fabricated a xenonite artificial arm for Simon. Grace and Simon have formed a friendship, disclosing their shared trauma. Grace suspects that he has developed a large crush on Simon but has no idea if Simon would be open to that type of relationship. Simon and Adrian have been working with Rocky to develop a greenhouse vivarium to raise seeds brought in by the Hail Mary.

Ryland Grace is aroace to me and Simon is somewhere on that spectrum, so when they do get together it'll be more of a qpr situation than anything. They're both trans and Simon is pre-surgery :)

Simon's voice is desperate, pleading, and Grace feels something inside him break. It wasn't fair, it wasn't right, this was arguably far worse than anything they'd done to him. His eyes water, blurring his vision as he fumbles for the intercom button, sniffling loudly and causing decent feedback. It doesn't matter what he's done, no crime constitutes such a brutal punishment, of that Grace is sure. It's why he's going down there, why he'd roped Rocky into his half-baked plan in the first place.

or: On the way to Erid, the Hail Mary receives a transmission from someone stranded nearby. It turns out Grace is not the only human lost in deep space. With their comms systems as their only link, Grace and Rocky must find a way to save Simon from his impending doom aboard the SM-13, which sits at the bottom of an ocean of blood. The only problem? They have to find him first.

“It's more than me.” He repeated louder.
Through aching gasps he pulled the floating jacket closer, patting the top with his hand as his breath became shaky. A lingering look on the box adorning the knife sheath, securely holding it fastened the vest. Then a short glance at the console at the front of the SM-13, he wrenched himself up.
“Simon.” A disjointed voice crawled through the sub, a choir of garbled whispers beneath it.
“Simon!! You can't run Simon!” They wailed louder, desperation more evident as the man stumbled towards the control panel.
“It's got a hold of you. You saw the horrors of it–” The monster cruelly bargained “ – and It stared back” They shrieked.
“Can’t you see this is mercy?!” The voices wailed, nothing but to lie and mess with him, Simon knew as much. Again the sub was flung the over direction from yet another contact.

Simon is taken in by an odd man that seems to be so far removed from reality he's claiming he's getting a biodome built on a planet.

Unfortunately, the god answering his prayers has little concern for his mental wellbeing. The angel who saves him is okay, though.
AKA your average simon-crashlands-on-Erid fic but with a fairly aquatic twist! Very gorey, I actually gagged while writing it which I think speaks to the tone of at least the first chapter. I'll be messing around a lot with the themes of humanity and the effects of being connected to something that hurt you. Will probably update semi-regularly if I don't get burnt out, but this shit has been plaguing my brain for a good while now so maybe we'll get somewhere who knows!!!

Life was simple, days on Erid passed like the world outside of a car window, and Simon and Ryland were in a good place. Ryland still had gaps in his memory, and Simon still had his moments, his episodes as they called them, but other than that, things were slow, easy, good. For once, Ryland slept soundly, wrapped up in his quilt from the Hail Mary. The quilt that he’d wrapped around Simon when he’d waited for him to wake up. When they found him in the submarine, in the SM-13 as Si called it, he’d been halfway dead, more than halfway even, but with some help from Ryland and Armando, he’d made a full recovery. Getting used to having one arm was an adjustment, and being around another human was… something Ryland had to get used to, but they did it. Their bedrooms were near each other in case one of them had a nightmare, and everything, god, everything, was good.
