Jongseong kneels in front of Jungwon’s bent form.
He puts his hand under Jungwon’s chin, a soft tap.
“Look at your god, sweetling. He has come for you.”
At twenty-five, Jungwon receives his fourth and final mark, as a follower of Jongseong, the god of fire. He gets much more than expected—his god has been keeping an eye on his progress, and to Jongseong, it’s time to claim the consort he was promised.
Fire always needs fuel, after all.

Summary
“For what it’s worth,” Jungwon starts, unaware that he’s quelling a ghost in Jay’s head, two voices overlapping. Jungwon's is louder. “For what it’s worth,” he repeats, husky voice quiet and honest, “I am glad to have you here, no matter what capacity it is in.”
Jay doesn't think Jungwon should be glad to have him here. No one should be.
His presence isn't a blessing, it's a curse.
There's something familiar about the way Jungwon's gaze lingers on him after he bids goodbye though, like he's trying to say something without saying it.
Maybe all the roads Jay has travelled have led him right here, and maybe, not everything has to end in tragedy.

Summary
In many ways, Jongseong thinks he’d been preparing himself for this moment for his whole life. In other ways, he thinks he was extremely unprepared—not at all expecting the rapid-fire of emotions coursing through him as he sat his boyfriend down on the couch in his parents’ living room, right beside their ornate Christmas tree, and knelt down in front of him on one knee.
More simply: Five times Jongseong proposed, plus the one time it finally worked out for him.
