Summary
Viserys dies when Aegon is a mere seven years of age and Lyonel Strong serves as Hand. The courtiers move on, making ready to welcome the queen, while Alicent and her children become relics of the past.
Alicent has one goal only: Get her children out of King's Landing before one of Rhaenyra's supporters kills them to win favor with her.
Rhaenyra has a different goal: To win Alicent's trust, and a second chance at the love she once sacrificed for duty. (And, let's be real, the army of the only faction that has been actively preparing for war.)
Or: That Dance where the Greens and the Blacks have exactly one battle-ready dragon between them, and they better team up before the rest of Westeros realizes this, too.

Summary
Rhaenyra was almost giving in to the darkness when she heard her name being called, the distant voice as low as a whisper. She looked towards it, to a large bonfire where the Targaryen banner burned.
Behind it, a figure stared directly at her from atop a low hill. The light green cloak contrasted with the gray landscape, and the fox-colored hair made it impossible to mistake her for anyone else. Even from a distance, Rhaenyra could feel the big brown eyes staring at her with despair.
“You have to get up.”
Rhaenyra laughed to herself. She wouldn't leave her alone even on her deathbed.
But she had to get up. She had promised her she would return, and she had to keep the promise at any cost.
Archers continued to shoot down enemies around her as the princess planted Dark Sister in the ground, using it as support to get up. She staggered a few steps, still catching her breath.
But when she focused on the hill again, Alicent was already gone. -

Summary
In a last ditch attempt to avoid war after Viserys's death, Alicent visits Rhaenyra with a plot to put her on the Throne. With Rhaenyra's family living at the Red Keep again, they are forced to face their past and find a way forward.
“Two days ago we had dinner together, as a family. And although the children bickered, I could not help but—,” her voice caught in her throat, “—but hope that we could yet repair things.” When Alicent said we, Rhaenyra knew she meant just them. “A day after that, and we were on the brink of war.” She looked up, and Rhaenyra was surprised to see familiar damp eyes. “I’m tired, Rhaenyra. I am very tired. I am tired of forcing my children into roles they do not want. I am tired of fighting for a power I never cared for. And I am exhausted, Rhaenyra, of hating you.”
