Summary
"Senpai…?"
It was only thanks to years of practice that he didn't flinch. They should give him a goddamn award.
What was she doing here? Well, not like it mattered. He'd just go up to the till and-
A hand closed around his wrist. He turned sharply around.
Sumire Yoshizawa was standing beside him, her face a blatant display of abject horror.
"It's you.."
"I'm sorry, I believe you've mistaken me for someone else," he said, cooly prying his arm from her grip.
He only shortened the distance between him and the cashier by a single step before she spun back into view, gripping his biceps.
"Akechi-senpai," she said, much firmer this time. "You remember me, don't you?"
This time, he failed to hide his twinge of irritation.
"Leave me alone," he growled.
Her face pinched, lips trembling. Cold horror washed down his back.
"Don't cry," he said, aghast.-
Akechi is determined to do this alone. Sumire is determined not to let him. -

Summary
Sometimes his boyfriend looked at him like he was looking for someone else.
Akira loved him. Said he loved him. And it didn't sound like a lie.
But sometimes, he shied away from his touch. Sometimes, his eyes glanced over him, like he was just a piece of furniture.

Summary
Ann was full-blown ugly crying: tears, snot, flushed face, all the expected accoutrement.
Somehow, this was his problem.
There was no way she could have known, but her timing was impeccable. He'd been in a guilt-induced fugue state watching his tea over-steep on the counter wondering how, if there was any justice in the world, a miserable sack of shit such as himself was allowed to suck air when she showed up at his doorstep at eight-thirty PM, eyes already puffy, and asked, damply, if she could stay over.
He doesn't hate Ann, most of the time. She's a little vapid sometimes, a little too bubbly for his tastes, but somehow he doesn't mind her dragging him along on errands as much as he imagined he would. Still, even with her obviously in tears, he would have found an excuse, or called the police, or something before letting her step foot into his apartment, if he weren't currently in the bowels of self-loathing.
As it was, he let her inside without saying much of anything.

Summary
"We're infiltrating the… palace, right? We just need to go in and look around? You don't need to worry about my… about whatever it is."
"Crow."
He didn't react. He could see his eyes through the helmet darting around, slightly narrowed in thought.
"Akechi," Ren amended. His head whipped forward immediately.
Yeah, that's suspicious.
"How old are you?"
His posture tightened.
In this outfit, it was easier to tell how much skinnier he was, and how much muscle density had been lost.
And there were only so many ways someone could get shorter.

Summary
She speaks quiet but firm, eyes focused on the door that stands between them and whatever force of destruction is barrelling ahead. "Go out the door behind me. You had nothing to do with this, alright?"
Her eyes get shiny and wobbly with tears. She looks at him, then bows.
"I'm sorry, senpai."
And she's gone, just as ordered.
The doctor sighs with relief. The boss lady doesn't seem moved, however. It's like she knew her win was preordained.
The door bursts open.
The most beautiful person he's ever seen storms inside, incandescent.
"YOU."

Summary
"Did you know that tomorrow's full moon is a blood moon?" Goro says, apropos of nothing.
"Nope." Ren glances back up at the moon again. Its familiar cratered face gazes back at him patiently, but all of a sudden he feels like he's seeing it in all its loveliness for the first time. "...Are you looking at it right now?"
"Do you want me to be?" Goro shoots back, the playful dip of his voice sending Ren's stomach swooping. Do you want me to be? God, he's such an asshole.
Ren wishes Goro could hear him roll his eyes over the phone. "It's a yes or no question."
He hears rustling, and then footsteps. "Yes, I'm looking at it, too," Goro says softly.

in which Goro quits his job, cuts his hair, and gets a dog (not necessarily in that order)

Summary
Ren has never been so relieved to see a disgruntled expression in his life. His features are all the same as Ren remembers, nothing monstrous or out of place, just pure Akechi Goro—part annoyed and part irate.
Akechi’s eyes widen. They glow almost red in the sunlight. For a second, he looks genuinely, unobstructedly surprised.
“Amamiya,” Akechi says, and his voice is the best thing Ren has heard in months. “What are you doing here?”
*
One year after the collapse of Maruki’s reality, Ren starts meeting a dead boy in his dreams.

Summary
“That’s okay.” Akira rubs his chin in mock thought. “Why would you spill your guts to me? We just met. You don’t even know my name.” Akechi’s eye twitches. His mouth opens in protest, but Akira beats him to the next punch. “I’m Akira Kurusu.” He sticks his hand out across the bar.
Goro stares at the hand, shocked into silence.
For a moment, they don’t breathe. The air crackles, and the TV hums in the background, and somewhere, a pedestrian shouts, and somewhere else, someone honks their car horn, the world continuing on and on in an endless waterfall of mundanities—but the air in Leblanc crackles.
Finally, Goro reaches forward. His gloved hand slots against Akira’s own, leather cold and damp.
“My name is Goro Akechi. It’s nice to meet you, Akira Kurusu.”
(Or: “Wait a second. You’ve just been, what, LARPing as strangers?” Futaba stares at him. “With Goro-goddamn-Akechi?”)

Summary
“How’d it go?”
Amamiya wasn’t allowed in during shooting, of course. Akechi had told him he didn’t need to wait outside, but he had anyways. Standing like this, in a thin alley between cement and brick, in a pocket away from the propriety of TV sets and dressing rooms, Amamiya looks like a secret stowed away especially for him.
“You didn’t watch it for yourself?” He asks.
Amamiya shakes his head no. His eyes flick upwards, and his relaxed lean against the wall means Akechi can’t tell if he’s sizing him up or checking him out. Then, entirely too genuine by comparison, Amamiya just says, “I prefer seeing you like this.”
Akechi’s first thought is that he’s definitely in love.
His second thought is that he needs to kill Amamiya.
The third is that if things don’t change, he might need to kill himself, too.
The only thing more embarrassing than killing the first and only friend you've ever made is getting a crush on him. Akechi is handling that humiliation about as well as one can expect.
