When Geralt gets close he sees that Jaskier’s eyes are shut. He’s breathing freely, just a little congested from the plaster that’s settled on his skin, making him look chill and dead. “Jaskier,” Geralt says, relieved, “wake up.” He reaches to touch the bard’s cheek.
But his fingers fail to make contact. They slide away when they get near, as if his body is coated in oil, or grease; something slick that allows no purchase. He tries again, pressing harder, and the resistance hardens in turn, like glass beneath his fingers, smooth and cold.
“Jaskier,” he says again, and winces at the desperation in his voice. He touched the emerald, and it did something to him. Mad Tymon was right: it contained power. A curse.
Geralt takes a contract to investigate a haunted house, and ends up haunting it.

“Jaskier…” Geralt whispered, bringing a hand up to cup the bard’s tear-streaked face.
Jaskier looked away, turning from Geralt’s outstretched hand. “Don’t, fuck—” Jaskier’s voice was suddenly coarse. The scent Geralt had caught when he entered the room spiked aggressively in the air. The bard brought his hands up to his own face, pressing the heels into his eyes in a manner the Witcher would’ve thought painful. After a moment of rigid stillness, Jaskier inhaled raggedly and, on the exhale, made a sound that made Geralt feel as though his own essence were draining away. It was low and quiet compared to the gasping breath the bard had taken, but transformed into a baying wail, an inhuman keening. Geralt had heard similar sounds a few times in his life, always when a person fell into unfathomable despair, usually at the death of a loved one. This was the first time he’d heard someone he cared for make that sound.

Geralt takes Jaskier home to Kaer Morhen, where things are far from simple. When Jaskier is injured on the trail up the mountain and Geralt is called away, the bard finds that his own mind is a formidable foe.Series

Jaskier hopped down from the table he had been standing on, and wound his way quickly through the crowd to Geralt’s side, smiling up at him big and bright and like nothing had ever happened.
Geralt remembered the last words he’d exchanged with the bard, tone cruel and desperate and bitter. He could see Jaskier’s face as he said them. That feeling in his chest tightened and twisted and writhed uncomfortably.-
I've seen so many angsty takes on Geralt and Jaskier navigating their fight on the mountain, but I really wanted to come at that idea from a different angle. So, Geralt feels super bad about everything he said on the mountain and is EXPECTING a huge blowup from Jaskier, but then Jaskier just forgives and forgets like it's nothing and they're travelling together again like usual and why does Geralt still feel kinda shitty about all this?
Basically, Geralt learns about feeling guilty, and how sometimes apologies are as much for yourself as they are the other person.

Geralt scrabbled around the table, throwing things aside after checking them, plates, platters, goblets, until one goblet he picked up smelled different to the rest. Strongly of wine, yes, but there was something else, something sharp that didn’t belong. He picked up more goblets, sniffing each and confirming what he was beginning to suspect. He then checked the jugs on the table until he came across the flagon Nathaniel had been using. The same sharp smell came from the wine within.
“This wine,” he presented the physician with the flagon, “It’s been poisoned.”
“The Lord’s personal supply?” the physician twitched, “Then why are all these others affected?”
“He was sharing it around,” Geralt remembered, “He –“
Geralt stopped dead. His blood ran cold.
“G-Geralt?” a small voice sounded behind him.
Geralt turned slowly, painfully, dread pitting his stomach.
“I, uh, I drank that wine,” Jaskier paled, eyes wide, “I drank it.”

Yennifer turned to her, looked even more surprised, and then turned back to Geralt. “So after two years of silence, you call me here, where you’re hiding the Princess of Cintra, to check up on Jaskier’s … what? Annoying personality?”
“Something is wrong with him,” Geralt repeated. “He killed two men the other day in cold blood. He tried to sell Ciri over to Nilfgaard.”
“Alright, first of all,” Jaskier said, “it’s not like you two haven’t killed anyone, so get off that high horse. Second of all… yes, but have you heard of the reward money?”

In the aftermath of the destructive battle with the unfriendly pain demon, Jaskier’s terror ebbed into a sort of overstimulated exhaustion that made it impossible to rest, or even sit down.
Jittery, fingertips dancing against his leg whenever there was a moment’s lull, he played at cleaning up until he realized he was just moving chunks and shards of stone and monolith from somewhere they didn’t belong to somewhere else they also didn’t belong. With a shrug and a sigh, he gave up and wandered Kaer Morhen until he spotted Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.

Summary
Geralt had never thought too much about what Jaskier did for a living, never believed it worth considering, but when Jaskier is cursed and loses the use of his hands for as long as the curse lasts, he offers to play the lute for him so that Jaskier can still perform. How hard could it be to learn to play, anyway?
In learning the lute, Geralt also learns more about Jaskier, and realises he has never truly seen him, and now that Geralt sees him clearly, realises how much he threw away before he ever truly realised he had it. Because Jaskier may have forgiven him for what he said on the mountain, but there was no way that after that Jaskier could ever see him as anything other than an old friend.

“Why do you only like some of your clothes?” Jaskier asks thoughtfully, three hours into the day.
Geralt looks to him from the corner of his eye.
“You’ll wear them all eventually,” Jaskier says in a tone that makes it clear he’s hard at work theorizing, “but you’ll wear some of them multiple times before you’ll wear the rest. They’re all black, so I know it can’t be about style.” The quick side glance he gets after that tells Geralt that Jaskier has his doubts about the existence of such a thing to begin with.
