Sanatorium!AU based in the 1900s where Frank got weak lungs (and possibly tuberculosis) and Gerard is mentally ill. This will be a long fic.
Gerard got admitted into the only sanatorium in New Jersey that also takes in the melancholics. That quack of a doctor said he needed to be under surveillance at all time. Fuck him. Gerard didn't mean to overdose. He only needed a few extra pills to numb the pain, that's all. Alright, maybe he wouldn't have minded if he had joined Mikey and Elena that night.
Life at the sanatorium was so stale. He hated it. The change of scenery didn't stop him from having nightmares and it didn't help him sleep either. He couldn't close his eyes without his comfortable silence being disturbed by a cough. That changed when Frank came into his life. Frank was the only guy in the whole place that treated him like a person, not a fucking suicidal nutcase.

You’d think having grown up in New Jersey, Frank would’ve outgrown his horror movie fixation. But no, he’s thirty, teaching Italian in fucking Rhode Island and he actually believes the student gossip that the art teacher is a vampire.
So what if Frank has had an awful crush on him since the school year started? He’d helped Mr. Way move into his classroom and carried a box containing issue one of Doom Patrol, a Batman figure, and splattered tubes of screen printing ink. You really couldn’t blame him for the crush. And the vampire rumors? Icing on the cake.
At least until it’s Frank’s blood on the line.

Gerard grimaces.
“Besides,” Mikey continues after a beat, “you’d get to hang out with me. And Ray and Frank too, I guess. But at least you wouldn’t be loitering at my job instead of finding something else productive to do.”
Gerard looks at Mikey for a moment before groaning and tugging a hand through his hair. “Fine, you win. Brian, can I have an application?”
