Summary
Obito may not remember much from before Grandpa Madara found him, but he's surprisingly okay with that. But then Grandpa dies and, to fulfill his dream, Obito needs to step out of the cave and see the world.
Finding a sole ninja his age outnumbered on the battlefield puts a wrench in his plans. Now, he finds himself carrying this one-eyed, one-legged jerk Kakashi across Fire Country to get him home. It wouldn't be so bad, if Obito had any idea what he was doing.

This is a story about a hero. There’s a pattern to these sorts of things: a tragic backstory, a lonely childhood. Weak in power, always competing with a rival, but unbelievably kind at heart. They have willpower beyond measure, and the dedication required to chase after their dreams no matter what stands in their way. And the dream– that’s the most important part, after all. The shining goal they have that they’d do anything to achieve, reshaping the world along the way.
Our hero fulfills all the criteria. He’s steadfast, and loyal, and never says no to a plea for help. He’s not powerful; last in class, looked down upon, black sheep of the family. He doesn’t let it stop him. He has a dream too. To prove himself to his teammates, to prove himself to the world. He’ll stop at nothing to be the strongest, with a just heart and a burning optimism for the world he longs to create.
He’s a hero. A hero.
…Right?

Summary
“What the fuck.” Usually he would restrain his reaction a bit, but he’s far too preoccupied staring at his dead sensei-turned-father-figure’s orphan son, all of six years old and sitting in the middle of his living room, grinning full at a bunch of stray dogs Kakashi’d semi-adopted.
Naruto looks up at him, apparently finally clueing in to the fact that he is no longer alone in the apartment. For a moment, the grin lingers, and he looks so much like Minato that it hurts. Then, the grin vanishes, and Naruto’s face contorts in shock and terror.
The grin hurt, but this expression feels like a punch directly to Kakashi’s gut, and he resists the urge to keel over at the force of it. Having Minato-sensei’s kid—the kid he would be a brother to were it not for the Kyuubi—look at him like he expects an attack chills Kakashi to the bones.

Six-year-old Naruto has been coming into this one apartment via the doggy door for months. He thinks it's a place specifically for the stray dogs that are always there. Kakashi, the owner of the apartment, thinks otherwise. It's a surprisingly good time.

Obviously he is, she chastises herself, he’s Kakashi, he's always serious. “Why do you think that?” She manages to choke out, brain scrambling to make a lick of sense from Kakashi’s words.
