Rose frowns. “Excuse me, I very much resent-“
“It’s funny, you know?”
“What is?”
“The two of you,” Albus jerks his chin at Rose, smirking slightly, “Always thought you two would - I dunno.”
“Always thought we’d what?” Rose’s heart stutters in her chest, batting against her ribcage like a trapped bird.
Albus studies her like he’s trying to find something in her face. His eyes are astonishing, like they always are, shockingly bright and deep as wells. There’s a crinkle around them now, and Rose feels another tug of longing, of missing something.
“You fought so much I thought you’d go the other way and end up madly in love, or something.”

“But you admit he’s a narcissistic stuck-up git with way too much confidence?”
“He could do well to be taken down a peg sometimes, yeah, I can agree with that,” Al nodded again.Or: Rose and Scorpius don't exactly behave during a trip to the Burrow which makes seventh year a whole lot more confusing and difficult than it could have been.
