“Captain,” says Wumuti, beckoning him forward. “You know why I called you here.”
Hyun nods unsmilingly. Wumuti hasn’t seen Hyun smile for months now.
“The princess,” he says.Princess Rui is being held prisoner by the kingdom’s enemies. Queen Wumuti sends her most trusted knight, Hyun, to rescue her.

“I-I’m sorry.” Hyun rushes, frantic eyes meeting Wumuti’s heavy-lidded ones. The smirk curling her cherry lips only confuses Hyun more, the sight of it twisting his guts. Still, he doesn’t pull himself away. “I didn’t know she was taken–”
“Shh…” Wumuti hushes him, the sound immediately making Hyun’s body relax as if she had an iron grip on his mind and body. “Don’t worry, honey. We both want you… If you can handle it.”

"Oh, me too! Where are you from?" Rui asks, attempting to shift the mood to something more engaging.
"Gwangju."
"Ah, cool," and not really what Rui meant. "Where do you work?" She clarifies.
"In a hair salon," he replies. There seems to be no malice in the way he manages to miss the point twice, so Rui lets the question hang in silence for a moment longer, so that, hopefully, Hyun fills it. "Scent."
Rui's eye twitches. The enemy.
It's been just over half a decade since Rui retrained as a hairdresser, and so far it's been working out. She's won national awards for her work for two years running, has the best friends she could ask for, and a life she's finally feeling confident in. After two weeks away, it starts to crumble. This is, undoubtedly, Hyun's fault.
