Summary
Zoro’s used to being the one people rely on in a fight. A tool. A shield. A sword (or three). No one’s ever accused him of being intelligent—or even having common sense. Then he met Luffy—and the rest of them—and somehow, he thought he’d found something different. People who saw him as something other than an idiot. Something other than a weapon.
But between getting lost, missing things everyone else seems to just get, and saying the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time, it’s not hard to start hearing the same old story again—from the very people he opened himself up to: he’s stupid, and he’s only good with a sword.
And if that’s how the Straw Hats see him… then maybe that’s all he is.
The problem is, the Straw Hats don’t realize what they’re reinforcing.
And by the time they do, Zoro’s already running himself into the ground trying to be useful enough to keep.
Now they just have to figure out how to fix something they didn’t even know they broke—before he breaks himself for good.

Aizawa vividly remembered seeing his name on this years class roster and letting out a sigh. He had--foolishly--assumed the boy would be arrogant, simple-tempered, or egoistic, like his father. To be fair, his opposition to using his fire in training and his cool demeanor did give off that impression, so maybe Shouta wasn’t too far off. However..
If the boy did act like that, he most definitely didn’t anymore. The icy coolness that was previously a deterrent from any of his classmates approaching him was replaced with--
Blankness.
Not a sad kind, or a lost kind, or pained, simply--
Blankness.
