Summary
When John wakes in the night sick and overwhelmed, he tries to handle everything alone. With their dad away, Grandma exhausted, and his older brothers annoyed with him for earlier accidents, John is convinced he has no one to turn to. But when a creaking floorboard wakes Scott, everything shifts. Scott quickly realises John is feverish, frightened, and far more unwell than he let on. As he comforts him, cleans up the mess, and settles him into his own bed for the night, Scott steps into the role their late mother once filled.
