An shuffles back and forth on her feet, crossing her arms across her body in a self-hug. “Can I walk you to the security line at least? 9/11 means I can’t do a dramatic run through the airport terminal to confess my love like in the movies anymore.”
Kohane laughs, doubling over. “Okay, An-chan. If you insist.”
She offers her hand and An takes it like a lifeline. As they walk, she relishes the familiar, grounding feeling. No matter what happens or wherever they end up, Kohane is always a constant.
Or, Shiraishi An gets a little bit better at saying goodbye.

Kohane turns towards An. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” she asks.
“Yes! I can’t wait,” An smiles brightly, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Actually, a part of me is hoping that they’ll call a mass casualty event at the hospital and they’ll call us back and we can spend more time together right now,” she blurts out.
Kohane shakes her head, only An would wish for a major catastrophe in order to get her attention. In a weird way, it was kinda romantic.
Dr. Azusawa Kohane is a burnt out ER doc. Shiraishi An is an uncannily cheery nurse. They make it work under the crushing weight of a crumbling healthcare system. And within the sterile confines of the hospital walls, the couple are infected with a grave illness. Symptoms: tachycardia. Diagnosis: lovesickness.

Rising rents. Grocery bills. Inflation. The cost of living crisis is hitting the Anhane household hard. In this economy, every penny counts. Kohane knows this. An could care less.
Usually Kohane does all of the grocery shopping for the two of them. This is probably for the best. She is careful and meticulous. She checks the receipt before leaving the supermarket. She price matches. She is a coupon queen.
Unfortunately, this weekend, Kohane is very ill. Equally as bad… they are out of eggs.

Kohane is so overwhelmed that her words fly away. Her eyelids are so unbearably heavy that she considers letting them close. If she were to just shut her eyes…
An is very much a wife guy. Kohane learns this the hard way, which happens to be shifting through the dimensions of time and reality themselves to find out just how much of a wife guy An really is.

CharredLog has been one of my favourite chisataki authors and when I saw that she had written irokaguyachi... well it exceeded every expectation I had! Wow... just wow. I think Melt is the defining fic series for CPK and will remain so for time to come. CPK is a great source material to write fics for because of how many holes you can fill in the timeskips. But I couldn't write a 10 year timeskip fic better myself! Will revisit for long to come...

I love the progression of this fic. You can feel the pining slowly build and build and build, with the undertone of kaguya's feelings being there the entire time. It's an old concept done so well. Definitely needs a few rereads! Bonus: Canadian irokagu lol
