There was no way it could be this simple or this easy. Jason wanted it to be, and James was giving him all the signals, but still. Come on. Get real. So, he laughed protectively and said, “You’re punking me, man.”
Out of unfettered, defiant instinct, James squared his shoulders and brought his hands out of the shorts pockets. “No, I’m not. But I’m taking a big fucking chance so–” He did another once-over of Jason, evaluating. No, he wasn’t wrong. Jason was just acting like a trepidatious deer. Well, James felt like a hungry lion. “If you’re not into it, let me know, otherwise I’ll never be able to talk to you again.”
James’ boldness only made him hotter. So hot that despite the cool breeze, Jason’s chest was burning and his hands burned to touch the golden hair and golden skin and pink lips. “Okay,” he said, tucking the vape away into his pocket. “If you’re serious, c’mere.”

Summary
Wow, these two really didn’t like each other. Jason was a little surprised. They looked like they would. They seemed like they would. But there was nothing but bitter animosity hanging overhead, the two of them caught up in an unnecessary competition.
But it was also titillating. Jason had never had two people interested in him at once. Finding one person to cling to him so tightly was a rarity. While James and Dave squabbled over metal bands, he studied one, then the other, only able to conclude that he liked them both.

“I don’t–” No, James didn’t want to say that either. None of that mattered anyway; what mattered is that he had the chance to do this all over. He bypassed the real answer and reached out for Jason again; he put one hand on Jason’s knee and curled his fingers over the denim. “He doesn’t ever tell you this,” he said, flashing a knowing, damning look at his younger self. “But he’s fucking crazy for you.”
Young James’ eyes bore into his again, furious, because of course he never wanted Jason to know that–not until it was all too late.
“He never–I never knew how to tell you or how to show you,” James added, the sad, miserable, gut-wrenching truth. He slid his hand up Jason’s thigh, slow enough for Jason to invite him or shut him out. “But I know what you want now. I learned.”

Summary
It was a show, James thought, and while the spotlight was nerve-wracking, it was also scintillating, making him warm and wiggly in Dave’s lap. He was content to never do anything with anyone else as long as was with Jason, but getting intimate with someone Jason approved of wasn’t actually so difficult to ease into, and knowing Jason was enjoying the view prompted a burning curl of arousal in his stomach.
“Jesus.” Dave grabbed James’ ass with both hands and squeezed, then turned to Jason. “I don’t know how you ever keep your hands off him.”
James blushed when Jason smiled at him and said, “Only with great restraint.”
