Mother often told Damian stories about his father. The great Batman and how clever and strong he was, able to live within a Fae court without losing his name, freedom, or form. It was a feat unreplicated by any human before, and Mother thought it likely there would be no human after. There were humans who had outsmarted the Fae, who had run away or won their Games, but to actually live among them? For more than a mere Dance or day? The Court still spoke of him in awed whispers.

It was why she’d chosen him, in the end. Mother could have had any human, and had proven so by catching many of them over the years, but it was this Batman who intrigued her, challenged her, and had proven himself to be the best above all others. She’d tried to catch him daily, but he’d seen through every trick, avoided every trap.
