He catches Dream’s hand in his. His touch is careful, soft like a summer breeze. It makes Dream’s breath catch somewhere under his breastbone.
“I know how it is to live against everyone’s expectations. How to live in spite of them.”
Dream stares at their intertwined fingers, feels Hob’s pulse in his fingertips. It’s a beautiful, quiet thing; it’s the first time he’s felt quiet in ages.

Summary
Morpheus didn’t want to complain, or offer up excuses, but he was trying. He was trying to be Dream, this member of a band that didn’t belong just to Death and him anymore. Endless was shared not just with Despair, Desire, and Delirium; it had become co-opted with thousands of people— over a million, apparently. It didn’t feel real.
And one of the only people, who hadn’t treated him any differently because of all this, had agreed to come along on the tour as Dream’s guitar tech.
Vignettes of Morpheus' time on Endless' first major tour and around it. Figuring out fame and his own complicated mess of emotions for one particular crew member joining them in the midst of it all.

Hob wet his lips, stepping aside invitingly. “Would you like to come back in? Wait out the smoke in your apartment?”
Something flashed in Morpheus’ eyes, some kind of knowing, his brows narrowing in a minute way. It made Hob swallow. He was acting a little obvious, a little desperate, Hob knew. But no time like the present, and all that. Hob was never one to let a good opportunity pass him by.
And, shockingly, Morpheus acquiesced, his lips turning up a fraction at the corner of his mouth.
“Sure.”

“Look at the state of you.” Dream murmured, leaning in close. He wrapped a hand around the strap of Hob’s bag that still dug into his shoulder and pulled it off. The bag landed on the hardwood floor with a loud thump and Hob had a fleeting thought about his poor laptop, but found he didn’t care as Dream leveled him with those piercing eyes, dark as the night sky. His other hand curled around Hob’s chin, tilting it up, forcing his gaze forward.
“What’s got you so worked up?”

Summary
The man turns again, and Hob tilts his head with it, giving him his ear once more to speak in. He doesn’t know if it’s the energy in the room, their involuntary closeness, or how Hob can smell his skin, like the early morning air after a rainstorm, like the salty spray of the sea, but he is positively buzzing like a live wire from it.
Especially as those lips, a blush of pink against marble white skin, brush against his earlobe, his rich voice rumbling and nearly making Hob vibrate.
“I’m not a nice man.”

Hob hears Morpheus’ shoes scuff and halt on the wooden floor before he turns around, taking a deep breath and holding it as he finally meets Morpheus’ eyes for the first time in five years.
Christ, Morpheus looks at him like he’s staring at a ghost. It almost makes Hob laugh.
“Hello,” Hob croaks. He knows this is the part he usually shakes hands with his model, but he doesn’t move his hand. He doesn’t want to touch Morpheus.

Summary
What made Morpheus so different from his other crushes in undergrad? Maybe it was the restaurant environment… the fact that if anything between them blew up and fizzled out, they’d still have to work together. Hob had heard enough horror stories from his fellow line cooks about the disasters of sleeping with the servers or, god forbid, other cooks, that he naturally kept his distance from everyone.
But beyond that, Morpheus just felt… untouchable. Like he was a piece of art, a sculpture made of pristine clay or porcelain that would not be sullied by calloused hands and dirty fingernails.
[Or: Hob, the new hire as kitchen staff, has a super duper normal crush on Morpheus, the maître d' of the restaurant]

Summary
“Annoyingly, an email from Lucienne with an agency she had already selected before they even had the conversation pings into his inbox only minutes after she and Matthew have left Dream alone to sulk in his office. He knows why they’re doing this to him, but it doesn’t make it any easier. If he’d let them drag him off to therapy they’d be doing that, but since they know he’d fire them both on the spot, this is their next best option. Trying to get the boss laid in the hope that it will magically fix him.”
Dream is persuaded to seek the company of an escort as he attempts to adjust to life-after-kidnapping. He ends up meeting a kindred spirit, learns how to respect other people’s career choices, and goes to Starbucks.
He has no idea where he and Hob might be headed, but it’s certainly starting to look better than being alone.
