Summary
Aonung was a problem child in his family, always skipping class, failing tests, and getting into fights at school. He wouldn't listen to anyone— not even his parents. So, to fix this, Aonung's parents sent him away for the summer to the Sullys strawberry farm without his precious phone and the familiar confines of the big city in hopes of whipping him back into shape. But focusing on his hard labor would be a little trickier than he thought when a certain boy with pretty, dark skin watched his every move.

“ao’nung stood frozen, eyes wide with terror as a sudden hail of gunfire erupted from the boat just offshore, bullets ripping through the air with ruthless precision.
neteyam’s ikran let out a sharp, pained shriek as she faltered, wings beating wildly in distress.
time suddenly seemed to slow for everyone. even for lo’ak and kiri, who was clutching little tuk tightly, as they stared in horror, watching their brother and his beloved ikran spiral downward. the world was tilting violently beneath him. the graceful flight reduced to a rapid, uncontrolled collapse.”

in the midst of continually putting on a brave face for his siblings, neteyam lets himself indulge into a gentle and unhurried relationship with ao’nung.
but just as he gets comfortable, the RDA execute their next direct attack on the metkayina’s. their success story? they had spider lead the charge, and managed to detain neteyam along with it.
